About
On 29 November, at 4.30pm AEDST, the Australian National University and InKlude Labs will host a launch event for an ambitious new project in Australia India relations, funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, under the AICCTP. The launch is supported by the Social Cyber Institute which contributed to development of the project. Anyone interested can RSVP below or contact greg.austin@socialcyber.co for participation details. At the launch, we will release a project briefing note, including a calendar of events over the coming year.
The project is titled Joint Impact Assessment of Critical Emerging Technologies in Support of Peace and Stability.
This project promotes more rigorous ethical approaches to international technology assessment affecting peace and stability than we have seen in important cases around the world in the past decade. The project seeks to mould a new consensus between stakeholders in Australia and India on the value of applying these insights to joint bilateral technology assessments. The intent is to promote (unprecedented) joint assessments by Australia and India of the impact of select critical technologies. We will develop a consensus framework – stakeholder-based – for these assessments. The project aims to create a self-organising community of practice (CoP) in the two countries that will endure after the completion of the project, hopefully with wider multilateral influence. In support of these goals, the project will develop a curriculum for professional education of government officials and stakeholders of interest who conduct assessments of critical and emerging technologies for these purposes. The project will be delivered by a multi-disciplinary group of senior researchers and professional educators who have expertise in technology, industry, economics, geopolitics, and public policy. The project is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade under the Australia India Cyber and Critical Technologies Partnership (AICCTP).
