Valuation of Reputation Damage for Transport Cyber Attack

Cyber-security attack has become an increasing focus for business and government planning. Infrastructure networks are of special concern. However, a less understood dimension of such problems is the effect of cyber-attacks on organizational reputation, especially for public services that are not listed on stock-markets. This Report reviews this issue of reputation damage for the case of transport cyber-attacks. It does so in the context of transport operations in the state of New South Wales, Australia.

Community Value of Public Interest Journalism
April 2020
Professor Glenn Withers is leading an ongoing project for the Public Interest Journalism Initiative, chaired by Professor Allan Fels, on Community Value of journalism. The project is feeding into the ACCC Digital Platforms Inquiry and public discussion over Facebook and Google payment for news on social media. The most recent report in this project was issued in April 2020.

Social Science Research and Intelligence in Australia
September 2019
Professor Glenn Withers and Professor Greg Austin played a leading role in a project commissioned by the Office of the Director General of National Intelligence in Australia through the Academy for the Social Sciences in Australia. Its final report was issued in September 2019.

Research Services: Since the establishment of the Social Cyber Group our principals have undertaken research projects commissioned by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (Australia), the New South Wales Treasury, the International Institute of Strategic Studies, and Transport for New South Wales. One notable project was undertaken for the Public Interest Journalism Initiative, on journalism and new media. It involved extensive focus groups, a population survey and statistical analysis.
